Description of Position:  Wildlife Prairie Park is a 501c3 not for profit 1,800-acre zoological park located just 10 miles west of Peoria, IL in Hanna City.  The Park's mission encompasses conservation, education, and recreation development in this unique habitat in the Midwest.  Parks and Recreation interns have the unique opportunity to learn all the aspects of Wildlife Prairie Park.  Interns will spend 1 to 2 weeks in various departments learning the following responsibilities:

  • Animal care and Nutrition (Animal Department)
  • Education and Programming (Education Department)
  • Invasive Species Control (Maintenance Department)
  • Events (Programming Specialist)
  • Volunteer Management and Organization (Volunteer Coordinator)
  • Parks and Recreation Management (Director of Operations)

Interns will also be asked to complete a small project, unique to their interests for the park.  Students will have time during their work hours to work on and research their projects.


Must be enrolled in college or recent graduate in a related field of science or education (ie, parks and recreation, biology, environmental science, wildlife management, ...)

Be able to lift 50 lbs and team lift up to 100lbs

Comfortable working outside in all conditions and providing your own attire for various weather conditions
